Need bullet-list of Cisco Unity Connection features / capabilities

Didn't know where else to put this...
Does anyone have a good bullet-list of CUC 7+ features and capabilities?

Someone mentioned work that a certain product (our proprietary email client) could do everything that Cisco's Unity could.
I knew this was BS as I'm pretty sure our email client can't route calls based on user input or search for employees with a few presses of the keys.
Anyway, anyone have a list of features?  I'm too new to Unity / CUCM to think of them all
 - Voicemail
 - Call handler
 - Directory handler
 - Interview handler
I can't think of anything else =/

Thank you in advance,

Sim Problem CCNP Route

Hi Folks,
just a heads up on a problem I had last week. I sat ( and passed ! ) Route but I had nightmares with one sim.  I won't say what is was about or what the question entailed but no surprise to say it involved configuring a router or two.

I spent maybe 5 mins reading the question and understanding what I thought I needed to do then after deciding what I was going to do I fired up the consoles on some routers in the sim. At this point I realised that the sim wouldn't let me use the "c" key. That's right - the "c" key. Every other key on the keyboard was fine except that one. Try to imagine how high the blood pressure went :)

I wound up leaving the exam room after a few minutes of profuse sweating and not a little bit of swearing under my breath to get an invigilator to have a witness to the trauma but all he could do was suggest I carry on as there was no way to reset the sim and load it up again.

Let the IPv6 Vulnerabilities Begin

Cisco last week released a slew of security advisories. One that specifically caught my eye is a Denial of Service vulnerability due to "improper processing of malformed IP version 6 (IPv6) packets by Cisco IOS Software."

I've been wondering how long it would take for the exploits to start to trickle in with IPv6. One can only imagine how many vulnerabilities Windows will have with IPv6 enabled by default. Expect to see more of these in the future as IPv6 becomes more prevalent.

The alert details are available here.

The vulnerability details are available here.

Recommended Training for CCIP

I hope to have my CCNP completed by March of next year.  After that I want to pursue the BGP, MPLS & QoS tests for the CCIP certification.  Does anyone have a good training curriculum for CCIP?
Thanks!

that mysterious drawing board :D

Hi Jeremy,
I have watched some of your video, and to say the least... instantly fell in love with them!
dude, its AWESOME!
after watching one video I feel like i want to watch more, and more, and more, and more... until I "accidentally" look at clock.. and its 2am :)
Thanks for such great education and awe inspiring learning experience!
and now for the question:
How do you make these "drawing" in video... its apparently not mspaint.exe :)... you must be using some device and real pen to draw on some board, that transfers the image to computer..
please share you secret :D

Replacing the ISP-provided DSL router with a Cisco router?

Hi.  Love the site, and am a huge fan of Jeremy's CBT Nuggets series.  I have recently passed the ICND1 and ICND2 exams, and am continuing toward CCNA Security, Voice, and then on to CCNP.  My home study lab continues to grow (as my available ebay funds continues to dwindle ^_^) , but I am really wanting to explore some of the WAN technologies across an actual WAN (internet).  I have this actiontec DSL wireless router that I use for my home internet connection.  I am wanting to know how to best replace it with a Cisco managed router so that I can actually try some of the things that I've been learning (and continue to learn).  For example, I'd like to be able to apply static NAT for a virtual web server that I've stood up.  I'm not sure what the best hardware platform would be for this.  I've looked at the actiontec settings, and it is using PPPoE to get the WAN IP address.  Does the address usually change often?  I checked my ISP'

CCNA Voice Lab

Most Cisco Press books say what equipment is the official equipment for the certification exam.  This new one for the 640-461 book doesn't tell you what I need in my lab.  Particularlly, I don't know where I can get the software for CUCM 8.0 and CUCM 8.0. express.  Jeremy mentions build a lab.  I agree.  I can't build a lab though unless I can get my hands on this particular CUCM.

CCNA Voice 640-461

Hello.  Does anybody know if there will be a series geared for the CCNA Voice 640-461 exam available in the near future?  The only series I see on the CBT Nuggets website is for the old 640-460 exam.  Thanks.

VMware Player 4.0

The latest version of VMware Player has been released and is available for download. Setup is a snap, though I had to reboot Twice after uninstalling the previous version and then again after installing the new version (thanks Windows).

New features in this version include:

  • Display technology improvements
  • Up to 64GB of memory in VMs
  • HD Audio is available for Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2008, and Windows 2008 R2 guests
  • USB 3.0 support is available for Linux guests running kernel version 2.6.35 or later
  • Bluetooth devices on the host can now be shared with Windows guests

Other than that, the application looks just like the 3.x version and seems to work the same. I've included links at the end of this post to download the documentation as well as the application itself.

VMware site login might be required for the following links:

Re-enable http:// protocol in URL bar for Firefox 7

Mozilla is at it again with their rapid fire release of Firefox 7. If you have automatic updates enabled, it most likely restarted your browser and installed version 7 without you even really noticing. This release likely has some whizzbang feature they believe justifies a major revision, however I doubt most people would agree it's major revision worthy.

The topic of today's post is regarding one of the lesser advertised features slipped into this version which lends to the "stupidization" of web surfers. The protocol handle is now gone at the leading edge of the URL. So, previously you would see "http://tekcer.com", it now reads "tekcert.com". Probably not a show stopper for your average sheepish websurfer, but if you are security-minded and want to know whether you're accessing something via http or https, it's handy to see it listed.

Thankfully, there is a work around. Whoever thought this was a great idea at least recognized that some people wouldn't think it was great, so they added a configuration setting to undo the damage. Here's how to get it fixed:

Tekcert migrated to new web host

If you were following along last night on Facebook, you know that the server Tekcert used to be hosted on was brought down by a Denial of Service attack for several hours. Since it's been nearly a year over at Bluehost (and I haven't been entirely satisfied with their performance and price), I have been looking for a new host.

So, since the site was already down, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to move Tekcert to a new home. I signed up for a hosting plan with Godaddy.com and within about 3 hours had the files transferred, database migrated, new IP address assigned, and SSL cert created. The DNS update took a few hours to propagate to my service provider's servers, so when I woke up this morning the migration was complete.

I've tested blog posts, accessing various features on the site, account creation, verified automated system emails - all seem to be working swimmingly.

Apple iOS 5 Update Today

If you are a mobile Apple product user and you happen to live under a rock, you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that Apple is releasing the latest version of their iOS software today. New features include:

CCDE Certification Exams Revised to Version 2.0

If you are studying for the CCDE, that's the design expert certification, then you most likely are aware that you have about a week left before the first version of the written and practical exams are retired. Version 2 of the CCDE written and practical exams will be the only available version beginning October 22, 2011.

If you are interested in more information regarding this announce, here's the official announcement.

A sincere thank you

This message is simply from one Jeremy to another (my name happens to be Jeremy as well) - thank you so much for the very well put together videos you have done with CBT Nuggets.  I used those videos as my sole source of study, along with a job in a NOC to prep for my CCENT and CCNA, (CCENT in 2008, CCNA 2009) using the ICND 1 & 2 test format.  As of this past weekend, I just completed the TSHOOT exam to become CCNP Certified.  While I didn't use the TSHOOT video series Jeremy put out, I did use his videos for ROUTE and SWITCH, as well as the Cisco Press books available for those exams, combined with experience in the real world.

27 Inch Monitor

So, I recently upgraded my display setup in the office. Previously I was in single monitor land, sporting a rock-solid 22" Dell UltraSharp which I am quite pleased with. However, I wanted something bigger to take the role as the main display. Enter the ViewSonic VA2702W 27-Inch Full HD 1080p Widescreen LCD Monitor

Subnet Calculators

I'm looking for a good, free subnet calculator. Anyone know of some good ones? If it is an installable app, it needs to work in Windows.

Thanks!

What is a stub?

I have a big clarification in stubs. I know about the stub, but i need the accurate meaning of the stub and when we choose the stub routers and the stub zones  in large and small net works. Can you please guide me.
Thank you
