Switches simulator or emulator ?
Hi all,
I was googling for a while trying to find any kind of Cisco or HP switches simulator or emulator but with no luck i saw all the post about gns3 cisco 2600 NWS-16 Module but this module dose not support all the features and cisco packet tracer also does not support everything so i was wondering if anyone have any access to any kind of switches simulators ?
Thank you,
What features are you looking for? Not even all switches support all features. Many of the advanced features of the 6500 platform are built into the actual modules and supervisor. These are things you cannot simulate. If you get a smaller, older switch, for example a 2924xl, it won't support all the features that say a 3560 would support.
When it comes to simulators and emulators, you've listed the most popular options:
packet tracer - pretty good simulator, but lacking some features and tends to have lots of bugs where stuff just doesn't work.
gns3 - great emulator, the 16 port switch module will provide some basic spanning tree, but it is limited.
IOU - IOS on Unix is a Cisco emulator that Cisco uses internally. Not as easy to come by as gns3.
If the emulators aren't cutting it, you can check ebay. There are some pretty decent switches for not a lot of money, you just have to watch for the deals.
Adam,
Thanks for responding what you listed was pretty much the result of my searches for the switch emulators i just wanted to post it here in case any member find something new.
